Toni Morrison has been my favorite author since I read Song of Solomon in high school. More than just a supurb, Nobel Prize-winning writer, Morrison is one of the world's best storytellers. Her latest novel, A Mercy, is in stores today.

She is a goddess. I just read the article in P&W on her. I about died reading that Charles Johnson (Middle Passage) said he "didn't quite feel [plot, structure, character development} were present in Beloved. WHAT?! That's one of my all time favorite novels. But, everyone is a critic...
I read that same article! I was stunned when I read that line, too . . . Her way of developing plot, structure, and character so seamlessly and so vividly is what I admire most about her writing!
You know I once taught "Bluest Eye" to a class. It was a difficult experience. You would have thought high school students could handle it. These kids were all over the place. However a valuable lesson was gained. Never teach something you love.
